IMPORTANT INSURANCE NFORMATION

Please check with your own individual insurance agent to see if yours is the same as mine. I have Progressive and my company does not automatically give me coverage for me and/or passanger. I must request it. The cost can be anywhere from $83.00 to $300.00 more per year. That is for only $10,000 worth of coverage which is the maximum allowed by New York State. Then check with your own Medical Health Insurance to make sure it does not exclude injuries incurred while you are on/operating a "dangerous vehicle" ex.motorcycle,snowmobile or four wheeler. What will happen is this,if injured the insurance company will first check to see if you have medical coverage on your motorcycle insurance and will claim the max. of that policy. It will then go to your own Medical Insurance for the balance. Please believe me it is well worth the time of a few phone calls to get the piece of mind that you are covered. Please read the following letter I received RE: Insurance..

Fran:

My name is Sean Noonan and I pruchased my Road King from Jenny at Arkport 2005. I'm a retired Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy,also a licensed private investigator. I look at your news letter often and will probably join your chapter soon. My problem is being a member of three other motorcycle clubs and finding the time.

Kudos to you for the insurance notice. I know from experience we must examine our policy and know what's covered and not covered. I have investigated numerous claims where policy holders are left out in the cold because of no coverage or lack of adequate coverage.

Here's one glaring example;
Look under the GENERAL POLICY PROVISIONS-TERRITORY-This provision tells you where your covered and where your not. "This policy applies only to motorcycle accidents and losses within the United States of America, its territories or possessions and Canada,or while the motorcycle is being transported between their ports". Some polocies actually state in fine print "Coverage only in New York State" or "Not covered more than 100 milies from home address" and other language precluding coverage because of TERRITORIAL resyrictions in the policy.

One more important fact-Racing,drags,and speed conyests of any kind are excluded from all coverage.

I could give you a dozen examples of this. The bottow line is-have your agent explain policy coverage.

Again,Great article.

Sean Noonan. "He was kind enought to blind copy my insurance info to the Blue Knights NY IV,Masonic Motorcycle Club #8 and Shine Wheelers.
